What Does Josh Know about Heather? (Part 3)

I cannot exhaust the list of wonderful things about Heather! Here are some more things I know and am willing to share.

1. Heather has a giving spirit! She has blessed me very much with wonderful gifts!
2. Heather is willing to dedicate time to help others! She has done this for me and taken many hours to help with the College Barn Activity, and aid in College registration, and also helping the Church in Ministries of music, Print Shop, Choir and Chilren's choir among others, and also babysitting and other areas of service to people!
3. Heather knows her way around the Bible, and has many passages memorized. She has good understanding of the holy Scriptures!
4. Heather is a born-again Christian who desires to have a close, personal walk with Her creator. She loves God first of all and her relationship with her savior guides all her other relationships.
5. Heather has godly personal standards with scriptural balance. She doesn't hold herself to a different standard than others, she is authentic! She desires to not have the appearance of evil, as the Bible recommends. She understands Christian Liberty and also the principles of taking the high road. What a gem!
6. Heather is wise with money! She likes thrift stores, just like me! (We both got some good shoe deals recently) :-) She is willing to invest money in eternity. Both Heather and I shelled out some cash to go to Korea, and Praise the Lord it was worth it! God has used that trip to spread the gospel to others and also to widen the vision of the laborers.
7. Heather is organized! She did a wonderful job a week and a half ago organizing our print shop, but it doesn't stop there. She has to use this skill at work and at home, and she does it well!
8. Heather is patient! She was working on some needlework, and though I don't know at all what I am talking about here, she apparently "missed a stitch" at some point. She found it eventually but she patiently looked for it all that time! And there have been  a few times I've had to call her late, and she was just as happy to speak with me then! What a blessing!
9. Heather manages her time wisely! And she has to! She is very busy with work, lots of church and ministry involvement, and now I am aware our relationship is a time consumer as well. But you know what? We're both very happy about that! My time with Heather has been productive, blessed by God, spiritually refreshing and a real boost to my soul! Godly love is a wonderful thing! <3
10. Heather is sweet! This isn't just a mushy statement either! :-) You know how there are people out there who always look at things in the worst light, or are always complaining? Well Heather is the opposite of that! Just being around her will brighten your day! She emanates the joy of the Lord.

I'm so blessed to be courting Heather! God's ways are beyond my ways, and I praise Him for it!

Heather and I have had various means of communication through our Courtship. The classic of course is good-old talking in person! I love every minute we have together! We spend time on Sundays at Church, and on Wednesday,s I have frequently been to the Smith House, and we also have time to talk recently while hiking at Itasca State Park. In the same way, just being with Heather even when we aren't talking is still a blessing to me. I love to just be with her and praise the Lord for her!

Our first long-distance communications were by email, a trend that we still continue! We've sent tens of thousands of words by email, with emails dedicated to asking questions and answering them, and getting to know anything we can about each other. In addition, emails are a good way to pass information in longer form or share things of interest with each other.

Now here's where it gets interesting: Texting. Of course this is the new wave of the future, and everyone texts nowadays, but I really don't do all to too much of it, until Heather and I began courting! Now I realize the blessing it is to converse in this fashion. However, Sometimes our texts came in too slow, so we switched from regular text messages to using Google Hangouts. And then more recently we switched agiain and now primarily use "whatsApp" to text

Along with that has come a new method of communication - voice messages! This is where you send little snippets of your voice that the other person can listen to at any time. It's quicker than texting and it's suspenseful and fun to listen to also.

Immediately after our courtship we began also to have phone calls! I call Heather for 30 minutes each day and we both enjoy it immensely. At first it was regular calls, and then it has morphed into being video calls so we can see each other too. That is a lot of fun! We end up on all kinds of "rabbit trails" and they can get interesting! :-) It's great to have yet another opportunity to talk with Heather.

We've also exchanged letters. The traditional method I suppose! And I have received cards from my sweetheart as well! And of course there are also little notes that we share with each other.

Maybe there's more - I forget! Even with all the communication by electronic means, I still miss Heather until I get the chance to see her again. There's nothing like being there in person!

One last note- It's not always just Heather who gets in on the fun. I've received texts from Mr. and Mrs. Smith, many emails and even one voice message from Mrs. Smith. And many good personal conversations with the Smith Family. Praise the Lord for the blessing it is to share in their wisdom!

To Heather: I love you!

Itasca State Park

We spent a wonderful family day at Itasca State Park, the "headwaters" of the Mississippi :)  Such wonderful memories made!  God is so good to me!!

Found this cute little guy on our hike!

Yep, we climbed to the top!  Definitely not for those afraid of heights......

At the top of the tower

In the Headwaters :)

College Kick-off!

Yesterday was a very busy day as all of the students at Master's Baptist College had orientation, registration, and an activity at Pastor's barn.  It was a lot of fun to be able to help out!  I was blessed to help out with registration as well as lend Josh a hand in the games at the barn :)  I've only shared a few here as I'm sure there will be many more to come on Josh's blog soon!

So Blessed!!

I just have to give a little "shout out" to Josh here!  On Friday I had a few issues with the camera that I was using at work to take product pictures as well as issues with the memory card reader.  I told Josh what was going on and what I thought had happened to cause the issue.  The only problem was, without a camera, there wasn't much I could do that day, and it was going to make for a loooooong day at work.  Well, no more than 10 minutes later, a certain someone :) showed up at work with his camera and told me to hang onto it for as long as I needed it!  I didn't realize until about an hour later that the memory card reader was causing issues too, and once again a few minutes later he showed up again with a memory card reader...and cheese curds.  Yum!  Ok...I have to insert here that I had never had cheese curds before in my life, and he thought I was deprived :)  I obviously didn't know what I was missing out on!  Anyways, I just wanted to say how thankful and blessed I am to have Josh in my life!!  He took time out of his already busy day to keep me going :)  I am so blessed!  I love you, Josh!

God's been good in my life
I feel blessed beyond my wildest dreams when I go to sleep each night
Though I've had my share of hard times, by my side He's always stood
And through it all, God's been good!

What Does Heather Know About Josh? (Part 2)

This has been a lot of fun!!!  Here are some more things about Josh that the Lord has truly blessed me with :)

1) Josh loves to sing!  And he has a beautiful voice :)  I am so thankful for the times we have spent singing together.  And I'm also thankful for the edifying, uplifting, and encouraging songs that Josh will send me throughout the day!

2) Josh loves to share with others the things that God teaches him from His Word, whether through writing, preaching, etc.

3) Josh desires to be a blessing to all those around him.  And he has been a tremendous blessing to me!

4) Josh loves his family, is very close to them, and treasures each and every family member!  And they have been a blessing to me as well :)

5) Josh thinks through things thoroughly to be sure it is the best decision to make or the best thing to do.

6) Josh loves to play games...and he has great strategy with them too.  I, on the other hand, just expect to die :)  My strategy stinks - well, to be honest, I don't have any!  Lol!  So I play for the fun of it, and to laugh hysterically when I get crushed!  Ha!  Maybe one of these days I'll improve my strategy........ :P

7) Josh enjoys paper crafts - origami, shrinky dink, etc.!  And he enjoys sharing the fun with everyone else too :)

8) Josh is great at computer programming!!!  I find it very interesting, but I am more so amazed that all of that happens to make sense!

9)  Josh is a great trouble-shooter / problem solver!  If there is an issue with some kind of technology, he can usually figure it out and get it fixed!

10)  And I am aware that this is a repeat, but Josh loves to smile and laugh!  And I'm so thankful for that!  He brings such joy to my family and I, and is such a blessing to each and every one of us!

I look forward to sharing more in the coming days!!!  I am so thankful for the Lord's blessing in our life!  Each day is so exciting and full of God's blessing!

My most special gift!

As Heather mentioned in her last post, I told her how I love her for the first time on Sunday, August 9th. That Wednesday, Heather surprised me with the most special gift I could imagine! She gave me a wood music box! On the top of the box, under glass, is hardanger embroidery that she did, with a pretty pattern encircling the words "I love you"! (This is a good time for me to break out of my blog post and say I love you too, Heather!! ) Oh, and by the way the pattern is in green, and that's my favorite color.

The box plays a beautiful tune when you open it, but even more special is what she wrote inside. Many little hearts with scripture passages and special messages. I've shared some with you below, but they aren't for you so the rest will remain in the box for my eyes!

I open the box and read the hearts frequently. It sits by my bed, close to my heart. <3 Isn't Heather such a blessed treasure from the Lord?

"Charity Never Faileth"

Yesterday marked two weeks since Josh first told me that he loved me.  It was a very special afternoon.  Neither of us had choir practice, but one of my younger siblings had children's choir practice, so I went early as well.  Josh and I seated ourselves on a bench out in the parking lot to enjoy the beautiful weather.  He presented me with a bowl of strawberries to enjoy (I'll let him fill you in on the details of that one!), and then read 1 Corinthians 13 to me.  When he finished, he gave me a flower and told me those three very special words: "I love you".  And then he gave me a picture that he had drawn out for me with the phrases from 1 Corinthians 13 on it.  I was touched by his tenderhearted love for me!  God is so good!

Josh, I love you too! And I am so thankful for the Lord's blessing to me in bringing our lives together!!!

Smith Family Blessings!

Not only did I take some pictures with my camera, but the good new-fashioned selfie stick came out as well! (and I'm not ashamed to admit it!) After a delicious meal and some good fun with shrink film artwork, all while enjoying blessed conversation, some pictures were taken. So I'll share! The first picture is actually from another day, but it was too good to leave out!

Saturday is a unique day for Heather and I - we want to maintain a balance and get things done, so we don't text on Saturdays, or email until 4:00. But that makes it even more special when we do get to be together and enjoy good times! And I'm looking forward to how I'll be blessed next!

Also, Mr and Mrs. Smith didn't make it into any pictures tonight, but they are a great blessing to me too! I am constantly amazed at the hospitality and openness they have demonstrated to me and I enjoy the sweet fellowship we share each time that I enter their home.

An Evening Together

After our afternoon plans of heading to Thunder Road got rained out, we shifted gears and spent a super fun night at home!!!  Josh and I cooked dinner together (which was a LOT of fun!) - Chicken Tetrazzini, salad, and French bread - and then we had an origami lesson :) pics of that one, but it was a lot of fun!  Definitely something I can see myself doing more in the future.  But then we had a blast with Shrinky Dink!  So thankful for a fun evening together :)  God is good!  Sweet memories made!!!

Watching it bake can be the best part :)

Josh's creations <3  ...some of these were in the stash he came prepared with :)

My creations <3

I've been blessed by the hand of God
Though I fail, He blesses anyhow
There are no words to tell just how good God has been
I've been blessed, so blessed
Blessed beyond measure!!

What Does Heather Know About Josh? (Part 1)

3) Josh is a man of vision for the things of God, and he desires to see God do great and mighty things in our lives and in His service.
4) Josh has a servant's heart, and willingly takes on many responsibilities to help those around him.
5) Josh has a burden for those that are dying without Christ.

4. Heather desires others to see Christ in Her through her character, appearance, and conversation.
5. Heather has learned to see everything that happens in life through the light of Romans 8:28, knowing that God works all things together for good to them that love Him.

7. Heather has a desire to see an unreached world hear about Christ.
8. Heather has a willing heart to be used by God to do more that she could ever do on her own.

Just ten for today, though there are many more. If you've read this post today, please pray for Heather and me, that God will work in both of our lives that we will follow Him as He day by day reveals His perfect plan.

Apostolic Method No More?

For those of you who were fortunate enough to not be subjected to my Valedictorian speech in May, let me fill you in. I told a joke about how I said I had made it through school and become valedictorian: Following the so-called “apostolic method”, which Paul advocates in the closing words of 1 Corinthians 7:27: “Seek not a wife.” After saying this was the only time mid-speech I got a round of applause, so it apparently rang a bell with more than a few people in the crowd. Watch the video here.

Now I of course realize that Paul’s admonition in the passage was taken out of context when I used it in my speech, but I’ll not be so quick as to say that the principle I followed is not a good one. I did have the mindset, upon entering college, that I knew what God had called me to Fargo to do, and that was to attend Master’s Baptist College and prepare for the ministry work that He has for me to do, and get involved in it at the same time. Now I do admit that getting married in the middle of college does not prevent one from still fulfilling those goals, but I knew that for me to take the steps God had for me at the time, with a fully dedicated heart and without anything pulling me a better direction, it would be best for me to wait on the Lord. And so I did! I saw God work, and I learned, and grew in those four years of school. I learned things during school that were useful for me to know before I took any steps toward finding a mate.

But now I am courting the beautiful Heather Smith! (Praise the Lord!) So some may ask, “what happened to that apostolic principle?”

Well, a few things. Firstly, I did say in my speech (watch it again if you need to), that nobody could hold me to that apostolic method any more.

Secondly, the reason that I held to the principle of “seek not a wife” during college is because I was seeking to further my education and needed to be entirely focused on that. But now- I am no longer taking classes.

But my third response is that I did not entirely give up the apostolic method. You see, I still have not found it necessary to “seek a wife.” I found rather that as I wait on God, God brings into my life what He wants to give me, and what is best for me. And God has brought Heather into my life, and through our courtship I have been greatly blessed. What did I seek? Matthew 6:33 explains it: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

So what is my advice to those in Bible College? Seek God’s will first, and in His time He will give you all that He desires you to have.

Our Courtship Story

It is always amazing how the Lord brings people together in His way and in His time!  Josh and I have been friends for quite some time, and it has been a blessing and an encouragement.  3 1/2 weeks ago my family and I, along with Josh and some other college students went to Devil's Lake, ND to help knock doors for the launching service of Grace Baptist Church.  Dad and two of my brothers rode with Josh, and my mom and I had my other two siblings and another girl from Bible college.  We stopped to get gas on the way back, then dropped Nicole off at the church, picking up my dad and my two other brothers and headed home.  After getting everyone settled, I prepared to head to bed myself, and when I went in the living room to tell Mom and Dad "goodnight", Dad told me I couldn't go to bed yet.  He had something to tell me.  So I waited and he said, "A young man expressed interest in you today."  I looked at him kind of funny and said, "Josh?!?!"  And his reply was an excited YES!  ...and then filled me in on the story of how Josh brought it up :)  With our parents' blessing, Josh and I began courting that Monday, and it has been a sweet and blessed time ever since.  I am so thankful to have Josh in my life, and he has been a blessing and an encouragement to me.  I love him dearly, and thank the Lord for him daily.  His love for the Lord and zeal to serve Him is an encouragement to me, and I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for us in the future!!  To read Josh's side of the story, click here

If you have found your way here and are reading this, then we would like to thank you for stopping by!!!  God has done an amazing work in our lives, and we are so grateful for His blessings to us!  We invite you to come along on our sweet journey together, and joy with us in the wonderful things God has done :)  We look forward to sharing with you all in the days to come!  God bless!!

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
~Romans 8:28~
