Anniversary Reflections ~

As I sit and write this today, I can't believe that 2 years have already gone by.  It might not sound like a long time to some of you, but it still feels like just yesterday that we got married.

And what an amazing two years it has been!  God has blessed us in so many ways, and I am thankful for how our love for each other has grown in that time, and for our sweet little baby that He has blessed us with.  As I reflect on all the little details of our relationship and all the things that the Lord had to work out to bring us together, I still stand amazed at how good He has been to me.  I love doing life with Josh, and being by his side is my happy place!

Josh and I never really got to know each other until we went on the Asian Games Outreach to Incheon, South Korea in 2014.  Up until that point we had known who each other was and had occasionally served in the same church ministries together, but we hadn't ever really talked to one another.  It was just an "Oh yeah, I know who Josh/Heather is" kind of thing.  And though we both attended Master's Baptist College at the same time, we only ever took one class together.

Upon our return from Korea, we definitely knew each other better and were more like friends than acquaintances.

Flight home from Korea

We continued to faithfully serve in our own various ministries at church, and would occasionally give each other an "Olaf" gift here or there.  It was kind of an inside joke after watching Frozen for the first time on our way to South Korea.

We had a little too much fun with it sometimes :P

The first few months of 2015 were a challenge to me with a painful relationship experience that the Lord was faithful to bring me out of, following which I didn't really know what to think or where the Lord was going to lead me with my life.  And I didn't really know where to start.  I made plans for the summer to be a counselor at Junior Camp, to attend Family Camp, and to attend a Singles' Retreat that I had been blessed by in previous years.  But past that, I didn't know what my life held for the future.

The church that had organized the missions trip to South Korea was planning a missions trip to Mongolia, and I thought I would pursue the possibility of being a part of this trip as well, especially after how much of a blessing the first one had been in my life.  So on June 25, 2015, I put up a short blog post on my blog Unto the Uttermost (You can view all of my pictures from South Korea here as well).

This missions trip ended up taking place just two months ago :)
After putting up this post that night, I started going through all of my Korea pictures again, reliving all of those wonderful memories.  And then I came across one that I forgot I had...

Typical Josh :)  Always ready to make someone laugh lol.  When I saw the picture, I emailed it to him right away with a comment about how I had made a post on my blog that night and then got carried away enjoying my memories from Korea.  We emailed back and forth a little bit that night reliving some of those fun times, and then that was that.

If you had asked me that night if I thought I would be married to him - or anyone else for that matter - by the end of the year, I would have told you that you were crazy lol. We did start to email every few days as friends, but I put up a mental wall in my mind, telling myself that I didn't want to get married.  Thankfully, the Lord had other plans :)

Not knowing quite how to move on from where I was at that point in life, the Lord led me to pursue a lifelong goal I had always had to obtain my music degree.  I turned in my application and all necessary documents to Baptist College of Ministry, and things were rolling along quite well.  I went back to the place I used to work and got a job doing customer service so I could start to save for tuition.

On July 25, 2015, a group of people from our church drove to Devil's Lake, ND to help knock doors in town for a new church plant that was opening up.  After some passenger rearranging so one of the college girls didn't have to drive alone, Dad ended up riding there and back with Josh so Nicole could ride with us.

When we got home that evening, I could tell there was some sort of excitement in the air, but no one was saying anything.  So I figured it had nothing to do with me and proceeded to get ready for bed.  When I went out to wish my parents a good night, Dad mentioned that someone had expressed interest in me that day, and right away I knew it was Josh.  After meeting with my parents the following Monday night (July 27th), Josh asked me if I'd begin a courtship with him...

...and the rest is history!!  We got engaged on September 6th, and a few weeks later were married on November 28th, 2015...

We are so thankful for these two years, and we look forward to so many more together!!  We are excited to see what God has in store for us in the future! 💗

Joanna's First Thanksgiving

Josh, Joanna, and I spent the day with my family, and it was a lot of fun to celebrate Joanna's first Thanksgiving :)  I was thankful for the time together and all the sweet pictures I was able to get! Mom cooked an amazing meal, and we all had our fill of  the scrumptious food :)

Typical Dad-style :)
Joanna had her first experience sitting in a "big girl's" chair because this momma forgot her booster seat...again... lol.  But she did great!!

She was pretty excited about the prospect of food...

...and need I say that she enjoyed every bite?! :)

Sweet time with Daddy :)

Her granddaddy was sure soaking up the smiles :)

This face though :D

My favorite picture of all!!

And her audience still at the table :P

Snuggles with Grandma :)
We did get a good laugh out of her dislike for pumpkin pie though!  Whether taste or texture, I don't know, but her face was priceless :)  Oh well, that just means there's more for me :P  Lol!  Thankful for the sweet memories...  These moments with our precious girl go way too fast!  She is a treasure <3

9 Months!

Our precious lil peanut turned nine months old yesterday!  And taking a decent picture of an active, always on-the-go baby is not easy - lol!  But I had fun with these pictures and wanted to share them with you all :)

In your Father's arms
That's where you belong!
No safer place to be
Than in your Father's arms
In your Father's arms.

Happy nine months, Joanna!!  Mommy and Daddy love you! <3

Music Monday

Hi friends!  Just popping over to share some kids music that we really enjoy around here.  Check out the Tiny Tot Pwaise albums from Maranatha! Kids.  They are amazing!  They are loaded with tons of sweet songs for children, and even at this age Joanna loves them.  It's so cute to watch her little face light up when I turn it on, and then she just sits there and listens.  There are several albums to choose from, but all of them seem to be really good!  I have been downloading mine off of the Google Play Store so that I have them on my phone and can play them no matter where we are.  Here's one of our favorite songs...

And here's a cute little baby that loves her music...

She cut two bottom teeth yesterday!  She isn't my little gummy bear anymore <3

Blessed Beyond Measure

This is a Music Monday combined with some cute baby pictures :)  Truly, I have been blessed beyond measure!  God is so good to me, and I can't even count all my blessings because there are so many.  But this song truly speaks my heart, and as I was editing Joanna's pictures today, the words to this song came to mind so I wanted to share it.  God bless!

I've been blessed by the hand of God.
Though I fail, He blesses anyhow.
There are no words to tell just how good God has been ~
I've been blessed, so blessed!
Blessed beyond measure!

Exciting Adventures

Introducing my new running buddy...

I found this treadmill on Craigslist for super cheap, and my wonderful hubby bought it for me.  I have been wanting one for a while so I could run during the winter.  I have no desire to run in the negative temps like the groups of Concordia College students that I used to watch run past our old house lol!  I'll probably be watching NDSU runners this year, and I'll smile as I walk down my steps to the basement to run on my treadmill :)  Haha!

I started running in 2014 in memory of Tommy...

August 2013

Tommy was always my biggest motivator and cheerleader, and I have picked up his love for running.  In 2015 I ran my first 10K during the Fargo Marathon weekend in memory of him.  The race weekend always falls very close to his birthday, so it's rather fitting.  Josh and I ran it together in 2016, and then I had just had Joanna last year, so I was unable to run the race.  It was my goal to run a race that weekend each year for him, but without having a way to avoid running outdoors during the winter (ok, I'm a chicken lol), I wasn't sure how I would keep it up.  I'm very excited to keep running this winter, and I'm thankful for God's blessing to me in this special way.  This Little Sis is pretty happy to be able to do this <3  I miss you so much, Big Bro!

2018 Fargo 10K, I'm on my way!

Recent Happenings

I feel like it has been ages since I posted on here.  And in a way it has been.  So here's a quick catch up on what has been going on!

When I made my last post on here (There Is Nothing Greater Than Grace), my grandma's health was rapidly declining, and she passed away that evening.  In times like these I am so grateful for God's grace. Her funeral was a week later, and Josh, Joanna, and I flew out to NJ for that weekend.  It was a quick trip, but I'm so thankful we could be there.  <3

We returned Saturday evening, and on Monday Josh started another week of teaching at Master's Baptist College.  I spent the week catching up on laundry and cleaning, as well as repacking to return to NJ just one week after our return from the funeral for a trip we had already schedule months in advance to spend time with my extended family.  It was a busy week for sure!

We spent October 16th through the 21st with my family in NJ, and we had a wonderful time.  It was Josh's first time on the East Coast (yes, we went to Disney for our honeymoon but I don't think that counts lol).  It was so much fun to show him around where I grew up and to take him to some of the sights I had been to as a child!

Tuesday evening of our trip, I had the blessing of spending some time with a childhood friend that I haven't seen since I was about 9 or 10.  We had so much fun catching up on things!  I'm so thankful that we have been able to keep in touch over the years.  We did lose contact for a few years during my later teen years, but not long after we moved up here, God opened up the doors for us to keep in touch again.  And it has been such a blessing!  Being back in her home again brought back so many sweet memories from when we were growing up :)

Thanks, Kaylin, for having me!! <3
Wednesday afternoon we headed to Philadelphia so I could show Josh the Liberty Bell and some of the older part of the city of Philadelphia.  It was so neat to actually be there with my hubby and baby!

This big girl graduated to an umbrella stroller!

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

After our brief tour of this part of Philly, we headed to Ikea to eat and stretch our legs, and then we drove up to Lehigh Valley Baptist Church for the evening service.  It was like a little reunion as we were able to see and talk with some of the people we went to South Korea with for the Asian Games missions trip.  It was a blessing to reconnect with them and some other friends from the church!  God is so good :)

Thursday we did some hiking at nearby state park, and it was beautiful.  The fall colors were out in full, and we enjoyed a several mile hike during part of the afternoon.  Joanna fell asleep in the Ergo not long after we started hiking, and she slept the whole time.  We'll just say that hiking between 4-5 miles with a sleeping 20ish lb baby hanging off your front is quite the workout!  Lol!  But we had a lot of fun, and I'm really glad we could go.

My aunt hosted a family dinner on Thursday night, and we had a lot of fun catching up with most of my aunts, uncles, and cousins.  I'm so thankful for my family!  It was so good to see all of them :)  Friday we spent catching up on some much needed relaxing, and then we played games for a long time that evening.  Sooo many good laughs!

We were up bright and early Saturday morning to head to the airport, and our munchkin turned 8 months old that day!  Thus, I missed her monthly picture :)  Lol!  So I just used a random one that I took on Sunday...

This stinker has such a fun personality!  She is learning so many new things - crawling, pulling herself up, feeding herself, and so much more!  We are very thankful for our little Joanna, and she definitely brightens up each day for us.  God has blessed our family so much :)  I pray that He would help us to raise her for Him and that she would desire to serve Him at an early age!  Mommy and Daddy love you, precious girl <3
